trip to Kefalonia begins as we’ ve already said with the natural environment
and above
all the beaches that are unique natural monuments
themselves. The intense morphology of the island has created some
beautiful beaches. In every corner of the road you will come across
to a new
surprise. Do not just stick to the well-famed names of Mirtos, Platis
Gialos and
the Xi beach. Do not hesitate to cross a few more kilometres and
a new –not that well-known but the same beautiful Kefalonia wll be
revealed
to you. There are many caverns in Kefalonia as well. In many of those
the roofs have collapsed creating thus peculiar geological phenomena
such as the lake-cavern of Melissanthi. Others will impress you with
their exquisite natural decorations and acoustics such as the Drogaratis
cave. The Monastery of Saint Gerasimos is definitely one of the sights that attract visitors across the world. Try to combine your visit with one of the two days of the celebrations of the Saint. The experience is unique. The other monasteries across the island worth your visit as well. The castle of Saint George that had been capital of the island as well as the castle of Assos will introduce you to the Vennetian Kefalonia. It is a flashback to history that unfortunately cannot be provided by many human constructions as very few of them have been saved after the earthquakes. Therefore few of the architectural monuments that have been saved carry memories and typical images of the pre-seismic Kefalonia. There are two very important museums in Argostoli; The Archeological Museum as well as the Historical-Folklore Museum. It is two of the sights that worth your visit. In the archeological museum you will be introduced to the beginnings of the civilization of Kefalonia that was inhabited many years ago. In the Folklore museum you will have the chance to enjoy unique creations of the recent folk civilization. ΚEFALONIA
